PARA India Children’s Home and Women’s Home
PARA India Children’s Home and Women’s Home

The Salesian Missions directly subsidize two of the homes it supports in India: the Ekalavya Children’s Home and the Surakshita Home for Women in Distress. The Ekalavya Children’s Home (ECH) is a shelter for children rescued from the street and other vulnerable children. It is a rehabilitation center (for children below 18 years of age), with most of the young children attending age and aptitude appropriate classes in local schools. The Surakshita Home for Women in Distress provides a safe and dignified home to welcome women and girls in dire need, which may result from sexual abuse, sexual trafficking, violence, abandonment, disease, or any other cause. The women receive unconditional acceptance along with rehabilitation support: health and medical attention, livelihood skills training, planning for their future, access to legal justice, reconciliation with family members, education for their children, and any other help that the women may suggest to promote their well-being and development.
