The goal of the Youth Center Dwarzak Project is to improve the lives of vulnerable youth by providing a space for leisure, sports, schoolwork help, as well as the administering of meals and personal and spiritual accompaniment, creating a safer and healthier environment. These interventions prevent risk factors that lead children to dangerous lifestyles living in the streets. This project makes available a unique space for vulnerable youth in Freetown, who otherwise lack access to safe places for play, academic assistance, and accompaniment.
More than 120 students have participated in different workshops, sports, and other activities organized by the youth center. Likewise, the youth center organizes remedial classes and provides basic learning materials for grades 1-6. Additional activities hosted by the Youth Center include table tennis, educational films, brass band, keyboard and singing instruction, spelling and quiz competitions, and storytelling events. Indoor table games will be purchased in the next few months to be able to incorporate into the summer camp. The Youth Center organizes sports programming six days a week with soccer and basketball training, friendly matches in Lungi and Freetown, and league competitions.
