The Diocese of Pointe-Noire, Congo supports thirty-four men in their formation to be ordained as priests. Through its apostolic mission, the Diocese of Pointe-Noire serves over 1,500,000 Catholics in the region, resulting in a priest to Catholic ratio of 1: 19,736. To carry out its mission, the Diocese needs great support in human resources to meet the challenges of the Pointe-Noire region in education, evangelization and pastoral care. The “Seminarian Formation in the Congo” contributes to tuition, supplies, food, housing, health and transport for the thirty-four men in support of their pursuit of general and philosophical seminary studies. The benefits of seminarian education are exponential as the future priests teach, lead, pray, and gather with their developing communities. Parishioners in the Diocese of Pointe-Noire receive pastoral care through Mass and other Church services that the government cannot provide. Catholic priests are indispensable to the country. In Pointe-Noire, children lack safety, education, and proper nutrition. As one example of their expansive outreach, Diocesan priests work weekly with poor youth to provide a safe space for children to play, as well as receive faith and values education. For these reasons, the education and formation of future priests is vital to the improvement of Congolese well-being.
