Emergency

Since 2013, Don Bosco Network’s role is to ensure coordination in the joint efforts of many Salesian NGOs, Mission Offices and other partners, to provide fast and accurate help in case of emergency.

Everyday somewhere in the world the earth is shaking, heavy rains cause the rivers flood the fields and villages, typhoons and hurricanes devastate the land, draughts destroy the crops depriving people of their basic needs. Only some of these breaks into global news because of their extend range and severe impact on the great number of people’s lives.

Salesian communities present in more than 130 countries in the world deal with these calamities and their effects on a regular basis. Most of the times, when the disaster affects limited area, communities and provinces respond locally. But in some cases, there is a need for joint international response and solidarity involving other Salesian provinces, Salesian organizations, institutions as well as private and public donors supporting the affected population in all phases of emergency relief, reconstruction and rehabilitation.

Stream of Solidarity

Stream of Solidarity is our Emergency Manual, which is followed by Don Bosco Network, its members and many other Salesian organisations whenever a Humanitarian Emergency outbreaks.

Active Emergencies

Ukraine War

Since the beginning of the war in February 2022, all the Salesian world started supporting the Ukrainian population, both within the Ukraine and in several European countries where they fled. Salesians focused on providing first aid emergency, shelter, education in war context, leisure time activities and psychological and spiritual support.

Earthquake in Syria and Turkey

In February 2023, a strong Earthquake in Turkey and Syria affecting our communities in Syria. We provided food, shelter, medical help and later education support, psychosocial and spiritual support and leisure time activities.

IDPs in Goma (RDC)

The armed conflict in Nord Kivu, RDC has caused that tens of thousands of people arrived to the Salesian communities around Goma. Salesians have provided first aid emergency, focusing in mothers, babies and small children, and elderly people in their most basic needs. Educational projects are also being settled for them.

IDPs in Ethiopia

The war in Tigray has been on-going for several years. Since September 2020, Salesians asked for additional support, as there were still a huge number of people displaced from their houses. Salesians are providing first aid emergency, inclusive education and trauma healing
